ROLL PRINTED EARRING WORKSHOPS
ROLLIN' WITH THE HOMIES
Gather your gang together for a spot of jewellery making with a side of wine and cheese at our lakeside smithy.
WHAT IS ROLL PRINTING?
Roll printing is the process of imparting texture onto metal using a die* and a jewellers rolling mill. The die is sandwiched between two sheets of metal and then rolled through the barrels of the mill. The pressure from the rolling process embosses the texture of the material onto the softer metal’s surface.
*A die can be any of various tools or devices for imparting a desired shape, form, or finish to a material. Re-usable dies may be carved into hard steel, but for this workshop we will be using found materials which can only be used once, creating a unique, one off print.
Suitable dies are many and varied. Think fabrics, papers, mesh, organic matter like leaf veins, straw or fibrous flowers, sandpaper, steel wire or shapes cut in cardboard to name a few.
