ABOUT SHANYN

Apprentice of the year 2006 entry, "Sublime".

Raised in East Gippsland, Shanyn began studying under the tutelage of third-generation Swedish jeweller Johanna Garmland, at Gems and Jewels in Ballarat, before completing her apprenticeship at Holloway Diamonds in Melbourne. Shanyn collaborated with Garry Holloway on entries for prestigious Australian jewellery awards and in 2006 was a finalist in the Australian Jewellers Association Apprentice of the Year.

In 2008 Shanyn set up her own studio, using ethically sourced precious metals and natural gemstones to create bespoke pieces for clients and expand her range. In 2017 Shanyn opened her first retail space in Bairnsdale, Victoria. In 2020 Shanyn Linklater Jewellery moved to its current premises in Lakes Entrance, Victoria. Shanyn seeks inspiration from the wild seas, salty air and expansive skies of Australia’s east coast. She draws on the organic and natural influences of her East Gippsland surroundings, the bush, the beach and the land.

Her range is classic and unpretentious, infused with elements from her favourite worlds. It blends the free spirit of regional Australia with the refined simplicity and grace of Scandinavian design. Over the years, Shanyn has travelled again and again to Sweden where she continues to work with and learn from her first master, friend and mentor Johanna Garmland. She has also worked with Gotland’s Annika Gustavsson and Cecilia Kores, from Mumbai Stockholm.
