Are you ready to smith and sip?
Learn the art of jewellery making while enjoying a tasty grazing platter and refreshments of tea, soft drink or wine (no booze before using fire though!)
In this 4 hour intensive workshop you will make your very own pair of roll printed hook earrings from scratch. You'll be taken through every step of the manufacturing process from drawing your own wire to punching your earring shape. No pre-made components here!
We will use solid sterling silver for our hooks and recycled sterling silver or copper (your choice) for the textured part of your earring.
This longer course also allows you the option of melting down your old, unloved gold jewellery to make your printed shape. For this option, please give me a call first as I'll need to view and weigh your jewellery before the workshop to see if it's suitable to use.
Skills covered in this workshop:
- Recycling scrap metal by melting and rolling
- Learning about annealing and why it is important
- Drawing wire
- Forming shepherds hooks
- Designing your unique pattern
- Roll printing your metal
- Punching discs
- Hand drilling
- Oxidising
- Emerying and finishing
There will be a variety of die options available to use at the workshop, but you are definitely encouraged to bring your own if you prefer. Let your imagination run wild!
Please note, this is a fairly intensive workshop and is best suited to those with good dexterity and a basic artistic skill level. If you are looking for a less challenging experience, check out the 2 hour version of this workshop.
*This workshop has a maximum capacity of 6 people and will only proceed with a minimum of 4 participants. Please be aware that if not enough tickets are sold by the day before the workshop date I may need to reschedule your attendance.
Each Shanyn Linklater Jewellery piece is hand made to order in our Lakes Entrance smithy. As such, slight variances from product photographs may occur. We think it’s this uniqueness that makes our jewellery so special.
Manufacturing time is usually less than two weeks but may be longer during busy times.
If you would like your piece by a certain date, like a special occasion, let us know via the contact page and we will do our best to get your piece out to you in time.
